Save 1/3 off most Standard and First Class rail fares throughout Great Britain with a Veterans Railcard. Veterans Railcard will save you and another named Adult travelling with you 1/3 on most rail fares throughout Great Britain including Standard and First Class Advance fares.

 

Benefits of Veterans Railcard

  • The new Veterans Railcard gives 1/3 off most rail fares including Standard and First Class Anytime, Off-Peak and Advance fares to Veterans across England, Wales and Scotland, whether they are visiting family and friends or simply enjoying a day out.
  • You can also nominate a companion to get 1/3 off when travelling with you and up to 4 children travelling with you get 60% off.
  • If you have served for at least one day in His Majesty’s UK Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve) or have been a UK Merchant Mariner who has seen duty on legally defined military operations, you may be eligible.
  • A 1-year Veterans Railcard costs just £30. If you want to get more for your money, the 3-year Veterans Railcard is great value at £70, saving you £20 on the cost of renewing your 1-year Veterans Railcard for three consecutive years.
  • The Veterans Railcard is available to buy online and by post, and you can choose to have it on your phone (digital) or to have a plastic card posted to you.

Eligibility

  • You’ll be eligible for a Veterans Railcard providing you have served for at least one day or more in His Majesty’s UK Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve).
  • UK Merchant Mariners who have seen duty on legally defined military operations are also eligible.

How to buy Veterans Railcard online?

Required:

  • A valid debit or credit card.
  • A passport style photo (shoulders up) of the Railcard holder and Companion (if relevant). It can even be taken with your phone.
  • If buying for someone else – the Railcard holder’s details, including their email address.
  • Following ID Proofs
If you: You will need to provide:
Identification card or certificate A copy of either your military identification card (MOD Form 90), Veterans Recognition (ID) Card, Veterans UK Status card , Certificate of Service or Certificate of Discharge
Defence Discount Service cards are also accepted if they display the wording ‘HM Armed Forces Veteran’. Unfortunately digital versions of this card are not accepted.
Injury under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme A copy of either your Armed Forces Compensation Scheme notification of Guaranteed Income Payment (ongoing compensation payments), Armed Forces Compensation Scheme notification of lump sum payment (one-off compensation payment), award letter for Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) or a disallowance letter for Armed Forces Compensation Scheme benefits
Receive ongoing award under Armed Forces Compensation Scheme A copy of your annual payment advice slip
Injury under the War Pension Scheme A copy of either your War Pension Scheme award notification (ongoing compensation payments), War Pension Scheme award notification gratuity (a one-off pension gratuity), War Pension Scheme award notification for supplementary allowances, or a disallowance letter for War Pension Scheme entitlement
Receive ongoing award under War Pension Scheme A copy of your annual uprating letter
Receive Armed Forces Pension A copy of either your annual payment advice slip or Gross Annual Income Statement for an Armed Forces Pension (G281ST)
Have served as a Merchant Mariner and seen duty on legally defined military operations A copy of the personal details page from your Discharge Book, along with the vessel name on which you served and the operation name and date

How to buy Veterans Railcard through the Application form?

  1. Download the form
  2. After complete the form  post it with a copy of your evidence of eligibility, passport style photo of yourself and your named companion (if applicable) and payment to:

  3. Make cheques and postal orders payable to ‘ATOC Ltd Railcard’

How to Renew Veterans Railcard?

  1. Visit the My Account
  2. Enter your User name and Password
  3. If your Railcard is expiring in the next 30 Days, or has already expired you will see a button to “Renew”
  4. Select the duration and type of card you would like to renew
  5. Choose type of card you’d like to renew
  6. You will be directed straight to the billing screen to complete your order
  7. Once you complete your purchase Click “Active”

How to use a digital Railcard?

  • When searching for tickets on Trainline website or in Trainline app, tap ‘add a Railcard’
  • Scroll down to select the type of Railcard you’ve bought from the list
  • They automatically apply your Railcard savings and show you the discounted price
  • Book your train tickets as a digital ticket, or to be collected at the station
  • Bring the device your digital Railcard and train tickets are stored on to show to a ticket inspector if asked

FAQ

1.Can you use your Veterans Railcard at any time of day?

Yes, you can. However, a £12 minimum fare applies to all journeys made between 04:30am and 09:59am Monday to Friday, excluding Advance fares, on Public Holidays or throughout July and August.

If you travel regularly before 10:00am, then a weekly or monthly season ticket may be more appropriate, though you won’t be able to get a Railcard discount.

2. Can you renew your Railcard at a station?

The Veterans Railcard is not available to buy at stations.

3. Can you use your Railcard to buy tickets for other people?

Yes. You as the cardholder can buy tickets for your named companion and up to four children as long as they are travelling with you.

4. Can you buy a Veterans Railcard for another person?

Yes, you can buy a Veterans Railcard for another person as long as they are eligible. You will need to provide the evidence to prove their eligibility. You will also need to provide thei passport-style photo and one of a named companion
